Family/Kid Friendly Dayhikes

Some time ago several of my friends with children expressed an interest in day hikes in the Atlanta area that would be kid friendly (strollers on up). Now that new developments in my current recreational pursuits might mean I’ll be ending up with a lot more time to allocate to other projects, I’ve been thinking about revisiting this one.  To my recollection, the requirements for kid-friendly outings were as follows:

  • No more than 30 minutes from Atlanta (less always better)
  • Car accessible trail/path heads.
  • Bathroom facilities nearby or onsite.
  • Reasonably level and wide trails.
  • Weekend hours of operation.
  • Additional features a plus (nature centers, educational guides, etc).
  • Detailed packing lists for kids and parents.

Anything else I’m forgetting? Interested parties?

I’m in. Let me know if you want a list of free weekends.

    Dates available for the Maurers:

Saturday, June 30 – day is free but we have evening plans (need to be home before 7:00)

The following July weekend days are still open:
    1,7,8,14,15,21,22

    August 11-12 (probably)
    Sunday, Aug 26

    September 1,2,8,9

Of course, we tend to over schedule ourselves and fill up the calendar as dates get closer, so telling us in advance when *you* are available would be helpful. Once we pick a date I’ll hold it.

Given the likely weather of the next few months, I vote for somewhere shady.
