Building a Simple Induction Heater

I’ve had a cheap induction heater kit sitting around for ages; one of those “Hey, I have $10 I’m not using” impulse purchases.   What I don’t have is a variable DC power supply but this kit is pretty forgiving in the range it will work with (5-12 volts and 5-25 amps) so had a thought of using an old mid-range laptop adapter that appears to to be sufficient.

What I did not figure on is that this adapter (like many modern ones) has a smart charging feature, so unless it actually detects that it is connected to the laptop, it won’t send power through the cord.  Oh well, either have to find a “dumber” adapter or find an inexpensive hobbyist variable power supply.
