Alabama 3 – Revolver Soul
Alabama 3’s 2010 album, Revolver Soul slipped under my radar when it came out back in May but after listening to it I can’t say I missed much. The core tracks seems to lack the depth and energy of their earlier albums. The track Vietnamistan is probably the strongest, but even it feels dilute and half-hearted. There are a few bonus tracks available on certain releases that are a bit more compelling. One is a cover of Johnny Cash’s Hurt, a bit predictable but still better than the core tracks. Another is a sound-bite laden remix of their most famous single “Woke Up This Morning”. I know this is a brutal review, but I’m terribly disappointed and feel the band really “phoned this one in”.
