Way to Represent, Target!

A couple days ago I was looking around for a gift for a friend’s child; a young girl who loves science. I recall seeing some neat science kits at Target and was perusing them online before picking them up. Target’s website has a gift finder (I’m notorious for buying gifts slightly above the recommended age group… I think children are smarter than many people give them credit for). Anyhow, I noticed with frustration that there is a gift finder path like this for science toys:

Target : Gift Finder : Gifts for Boys : Boys 8-9 Years : Young Scientist

Closest path on the Girl side of things?

Target : Gift Finder : Gifts for Girls : Girls 8-9 Years : Whiz Kids

Maybe I’m being touchy, but why does Young Scientist appeal to any boy 8-9, but only Whiz or exceptional girls of the same group.  Yeah, yeah, I spend too much time analyzing Target’s marketing techniques.

Don’t you know? ALL boys have superior brains, but only a few girls are smart enough to handle something more complicated than Home Ec.

As Barbie once taught us, “Math is hard!”

Hey, I enjoy a fine turkey pot pie as much as the next person, but a lady who can build her own Tesla Coil? Frickin hawt!
