Cease and Desist Music
I’d had the track “Have You Come to Realise” in my music collection for a long time. It’s a mash up of The Streets and The Flaming Lips and although I rather like it, I hadn’t really given its origins much thought. This weekend I was cleaning up the ID tags and noticed “eric@kleptones.com” in the Composer field. Cut, Paste, Go and my browser ends up at the home page of UK-based DJ, Eric Kleptone, aka The Kleptones. Eric has five albums available for download in glorious, DRM-free format (torrent versions as well). Many of the songs are more along the lines of sampling remixes, like the Queen inspired “A Night At The Hip-Hopera”, which I’m listening my way through at this very moment. Apparently, his music efforts have gotten him an RIAA take-down notice at some point and recently a movie soundtrack deal. Sample tracks and download information after the cut.
